Nokia’s future in games

March 20, 2007

Nokia will try hard to develop the mobile gaming industry this year. A pilot is due immediately and is predicted to be fully functional after this summer.

The market leader Nokia announced that they this year will offer consumers a simplified way to access games. This effort will especially affect the coming N-series smartphones and other devices running S60.

Nokia will collaborate with the Finnish telecoms-company Elisa to deliver a pilot for the new game-community based on their N-Gage-model. The pilot will launch any day now and will be thoroughly tested until midsummer.

Elisa will integrate their now existing game-community with Nokia’s N-Gage Arena. The companies have spoken about their wish to test the system thoroughly and base their evaluations from real network environments.

Nokia N95 for sale in UK

March 20, 2007

The brittish web shop onecompare.com announce they have Nokia N95’s in stock and for sale. At the same time Nokia claims they have not shipped any phones to the UK yet.

– The deliveries will begin any day now, but we haven’t even started delivering to the UK yet, says Kari Tuutti, communication executive at Nokia multimedia, to Finnish Digitoday.

Onecompare.com is already offering the N95 phone and writes: “We recently wrote about Nokia’s newest edition ‘The N 95 - coming soon’, well it has arrived today” on their webpage.

Kari Tuutti doubts this is an official delivery from a commercial reseller and speculates it’s probably an unofficial stock of phones or some kind of preordered phones.

According to the Finnish Marketing Executive the Nokia N95 will be available in April in Finnish stores, Nokia’s “home country”.

nokia-n99-concept New Nokia N99 concept phone

This picture of a new concept phone from Nokia has recently leaked. The Nokia N99 may never become real but if it does the specifications are:

  • 16GB of internal flash memory, up to 4GB mini SD slot(?)
  • a nine-way joystick button up front
  • 3.2 inch display with 16:9 aspect ratio
  • integrated GPS navigation
  • WLAN WiFi connectivity
  • 8 megapixel camera and 30 fps video capture using 3 ccd’s
  • MP3, DivX, XviD, MPEG and AVI
  • qwerty pad

One thing’s for sure - it packs way more features than the iPhone, and the inclusion of 3G connectivity would’ve been the icing on the cake. The obvious flaw is the lack of a touchscreen?
