Brian Lam at Gizmodo wrote a review pretty short review about the Nokia N95. He’s mainly focused on why the phone rocks and why it sucks. Here’s what he says:

Why the N95 rocks:

  1. The GPS - Brian writes "the GPS is really GPS" and seems pretty happy about it.
  2. The Camera - Despite som grain and shutter lag, the camera is clearly a powerful tool, both for taking pictures and recording video.
  3. Lifeblog - The N95 can post any text/video/image you take with the phone to a blog, Flickr or Vox.
  4. Media playback - Good speakers, nice mp3/video software, equalizer and visualizations. MP3/WMA/M4A, AAC, MPEG-4, H.264/AVC, H.263/3GPP and RealVideo 8/9/10 support. Add in support for Podcasts (audio AND video).
  5. Office suit for editing and/or viewing your files. Zip utitities, VOIP, uPNP media server etc…

Why the N95 sucks:

  1. Battery time - just ain’t good enough. Hopefully Nokia will soon release more powerful batteries.
  2. HSDPA (super fast 3G) - won’t work in US because the phone only supports European standard. American users are stuck with slow EDGE.
  3. Laggy OS - Maybe it’s Symbian (the OS), maybe it’s the hardware. Fact is the phone can be slow.
  4. Hardware feels junky - Brian want’s a denser package (read metalcase) and QWERTY keyboard.
  5. Price - $750 is the price of a laptop!
