Sneak preview of Fring on the N95, free VOIP-calls

April 15, 2007 by Dario Soltani

Fring uses your mobile internet connection to make peer-to-peer VoIP calls, send instant messages and talk with VoIP applications such as Skype, Google Talk , MSN Messenger and SIP at no extra cost.

Free calls, how does it work?

Fring works by establishing a Peer-To-Peer VoIP connection between calling parties, enabling true VoIP sessions between fring enabled handsets and also between handsets and PCs.

Fring enables VoIP over 3G, GPRS and Wi-Fi networks. Fring dynamically adapts itself to the optimal network and handset characteristics while enabling seamless roaming VoIP on multiple networks.

This means your phonecalls will be free of charge. However, your carrier might still charge you for the data transfered. This should not be a big problem because you can also use it on Wi-Fi hotspots or use your Wi-Fi connection at home.

You can even use it withour a SIM-card

Fring is not yet available on the N95 but will be very shortly! Read more at fring.com.

Hello Lenard! Well in the ad they use Fring in a WiFi hotspot… You need to connect the phone to a wireless LAN, also known as a WLAN. This can be setup in your home network with a wireless router. Otherwise many restaurants, café’s and hotels provide wireless LAN networks for free. I know McDonalds provide one in almost every one of their restaurants. Good luck!
