How to: 5 tips making your Nokia N95 batteries last longer.

By now most people have accepted that they have to charge their Nokia N95 on a daily basis, which in my opinion isn’t sensational news for smartphones. Some people have found this to annoying and decided to sell their devices in favor for phones such as the Nokia E90.

This guide is pretty basic and might even be considered as foolish by experienced users, but I’m convinced there are a lot of people out there having no clue about these factors. So, here it is, 5 tips making your Nokia N95 batteries last longer - for dummies if you will.

  1. Close applications you don’t use
The Nokia N95 is a multi-tasking device. This means you can run application, such as the calculator and at the same time listen to music. Multi-tasking is thus the ability to run several processes on your phone at the same time.Hypothetically you could be playing you’re favorite game on your phone when suddenly your (long lost?) uncle gives you a call from the Himalayas. Of course you talk with him for an hour or so and forget all about shutting the game application down properly. The game application will still be running in the background causing your batteries to drain. Therefore it is important that you make sure you properly closed down your applications as leaving them running in the background won’t do neither you or your batteries any good.To see what applications are running and shutting them down:
In the main screen, press and hold down the main menu/applications key (just to the left of the navigation keys). After a few seconds some icons will appear in the top left of the screen. If the only application you have showing is “Standby” then you have no running background tasks. If anything else is running it can be closed by highlighting the icon for that application and pressing the “C” key.
  2. Avoid WiFi as much as possible
The Nokia N95 supports WiFi connections, making it possible to use wireless networks to gain access to the Internet, your computer etc. This will of course eat from your batteries. To make the best of the situation, try to use it as sparsely as possible.
  3. Avoid using the camera
The Nokia N95 comes with a superb camera, both for taking pictures as well as for recording “TV-quality” video (in my opinion DVD-quality is somewhat misleading). These functions are of course also big battery consumers and should be used sparsely.
  4. Avoid video playback
This device has some really impressing multimedia features such as movie playback and the TV-out port, making it possible to connect the device to a TV and watch an entire movie. Right, you’ve guessed it! This is of course also a no-no if you want to save some battery time.
  5. Plan your use
Planning your phone usage might be the most important and effective way to make your batteries last longer. By that I don’t mean you should avoid using your phone, because that’s what you’ve paid for. Instead, buy a car charger or bring one with you and charge your phone whenever possible. I mean, unless you don’t live in the Amazons, you will have access to electricity 24h/day.

Tip!
Never use use non-OEM batteries as they can damage your phone and/or void your warranty. These batteries are sold on places such as e-bay and look pretty much the same as the original Nokia batteries.
