Symbian is the future
May 31, 2007 by Dario Soltani
With the launch of our new site Simply Symbian we’re proud to give you a comprehensive article on the latest developments in the most discussed about topic among today’s on-the-move consumers. Most news sites have been reporting lately that the sales on next generation mobile phones have been sky-rocketing in the last year, the market growth and the consumer interest have been way more than the predicted levels; in some areas even better than people had dared to hope for! Symbian is the future, the corporations know it and it’s starting to settle in with the consumers as well. Most people now demand more from their mobile devices like GPS functionality, multimedia capabilities, easy communication tools for business related work and reliable software that’s intuitive yet offers the same depth as their PC. It has to be scalable and follow a form of standard, base, or framework for developers to be able to target as many devices as possible and it needs to be ’smart’ to match the expectations of the consumers towards the more and more dominating smartphones on the market; that’s where Symbian, Simply Symbian, comes into the picture! Nokia reported in April at the S60 Summit expo in Madrid, having shipped over 100 million S60 devices and they’re not the only company producing devices running Symbian. Symbian is the world’s leading smartphone software, backed up by the industry’s top mobile device manufacturers. With the release of S60 3rd edition with feature pack 2, standard C functionality libraries are supported on the S60 platform, more on this will be written in-depth soon. Another interesting implementation in the above release is the introduction of Widgets on the Symbian platform bringing technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript and AJAX. As a nice finish, I’ll leave you with the following words from Vice President of Mobile Software Sales and Marketing at Nokia
This announcement represents a significant landmark for S60. We believe it inspires further innovation on S60. The open platform gives mobile users more choice and provides a platform upon which new applications and services can be built.
