Geo-locating photos with Symbian

June 10, 2007

If you’re a proud owner of symbian device with a bluetooth GPS module or even better one with integrated GPS you’ll now be able to geotag your photos on the fly, if not, you’ll still be able to make use of a new and exciting software recently available on the market for geotag photos!

geo image.thumbnail Geo locating photos with SymbianPreviously you’d have to manually tag your photos with geographic information but now there is new software available for Symbian phones that automates the entire process for you! From now on there’ll be no hassle to share photos with loved ones and relatives, be it on vacation or any other location. No longer will you be on the phone trying to describe your location, how to get there and what it looks like. Just snap a photo and share it with your friends on the fly, they’ll directly know where you are from the geotag in the photo. Connect this to a global database and you’ll be able to download pictures to your mobile while heading to a specific destination, knowing in advance how it looks like and what to expect; much like GPS map software but more personal.

miCard chosen as global memory card standard

June 6, 2007

00E3000000074081 miCard chosen as global memory card standardA Taiwanese research institute has developed a new memory card, the miCard (Multiple Interface card) designed to work on both MMC slots such as those used in digital cameras, mobile phones as well as any device with a USB (Universal Serial Bus) plug, which are common on PCs.

This makes transferring pictures, songs and other data between gadgets and PCs easier. The card is expected to be available globally starting from the third quarter of 2007. So far 12 Taiwanese companies have signed on to manufacture the miCard, according to its inventors The Industrial Technology Research Institute. Officials expect saving around US$40 million as manufacturers will not have to pay royalties to make miCards.

How to: Torrent for Symbian made Simply

June 5, 2007

.resized 35x33 symtorrent logo.thumbnail How to: Torrent for Symbian made SimplyAfter a little digging I came up with two different clients that caught my interest. WizBit and SymTorrent.

WizBit is a BitTorrent client for Smartphones written by David Hulbert for his final year project at Exeter University. Eventhough the project isn’t yet complete, David does offer an alpha version for conceptual purposes, which doesn’t download files yet but is able to connect to a tracker and retrieve a list of peers from it. This software will according to my opinion have the best functionality in it’s class, when all the ideas listed on the dev-log are implemented. I’m looking forward to testing the final version around the announced date, 7 of July!

SymTorrent on the other hand is a fully functional and freely available alternative that’s distributed under the GNU GP-License! Now to 3 easy steps on how to download torrents on your symbian device!
