Nokia N95 firmware update, v12.0.013
July 6, 2007 by Dario Soltani
Nokia has just released a new firmware update for the N95. It’s now available via the Nokia Software Updater, this time it’s version 12.0.013. You can download it and install it by reading my How to: upgrade your Nokia N95 firmware article. I’m not entirely sure about what this update does yet, but it has been confirmed that it does indeed include the Assisted-GPS which I wrote about earlier.
Get the update, install it and let me know what you liked and didn’t like. I’ll publish a change list as soon as I have all the details.

I just updated my firmware yesterday. I immediately tried the new AGPS and I had high expectations after reading several other reports. I went outside and fired up the mapping software, waited a minute and nothing. Waited another minute and another and still nothing. Normally by this time, using just plain GPS, I would have had a fix. I began to wonder if something had gone wrong. I got back online and read a couple more blogs to see if there was a setting I missed or if there were known problems. Everything seemed to be fine so I headed back out. I got into an "open" area in the city and gave it another try. After a few minutes I finally got a fix, but it showed me as being about .5 kilometers from my real location. I switched the phone off and gave it another try. This time it showed me a little closer to my real location but sporadically jumping around.I started to really get concerned that the new firmware had messed up my GPS unit. However the next try, a few hours later, I had an accurate fix within 30 seconds. Since then I have noticed a great improvement with FTTF and subsequent warm fixes (which were generally ok, anyway).Just a note to those of you who have upgraded to Navigation. After your firmware update you will have to "purchase" the Navigation upgrade again. Don’t be alarmed, the button says purchase but really all it does is update your software so your Navigation works again.
Thanks for all the information Brandon! It’s great that all you people share your experiences with me and the people reading my stuff
I updated mine the other day, and the only thing that annoys me is the change in the way predictive text is handled now. I don’t know if my operator (T-Mobile UK) had changed the original settings in their Roms, but now I have to use the pencil key to find alternative words instead of using the down cursor key like before. Does anyone know how to change this back? I was so used to it. Apart from that, I have noticed less crashes, and the GPS is definately quicker to lock on
Great.
Instead of using the cursor keys to scroll through your predictive text word you now have to use the star key * witch is a bit annoying at 1st but when you get used to it been that key its much better. hope this helps
