Windows Live for Nokia S60

July 8, 2007 by Dario Soltani

Nokia and Microsoft are offering a free Symbian Signed Microsoft Windows Live client (v1.0.6141) for Symbian 9.1 based Nokia S60 mobile devices. The software can be downloaded via the phones WinLive folder available for users in some countries (if not, you can find a download link below). Although the software is freeware the data transfered is not with most carriers. This shouldn’t be a big problem as chatting only transfers small amounts of data. The application integrates Windows Live Hotmail, Live Contacts, Live Search, Live Spaces and Live Messenger with your device.

The application reminds me a lot of the "real" MSN messenger application available to PC’s. The conversations are sorted in flaps making it easy to handle several conversations simultaneously. The software can also be active in the background and alert the user once a message is received with the classical Pling! and a small message symbol in the right corner of the display.

Anna Svensson at Nokia told Swedish Mobil Magazine the software is released to the Swedish community as part of a pilot test aimed to determine how popular this functionality is. Swedish users can easily download the software via the phones built-in menus.

  • Handle your Hotmail / MSN emails and contacts
  • Add a personal status display message ("taking a shower" etc)
  • Send and receive files, images, sound clips and voice clips!
  • Play voice clips sent by others
  • Vibration when being buzzed/nudged.
  • Sort contacts by online status or display name

  2. Unzip the file
  3. Transfer both files to the device.
  4. Install in this order: 1st: dep.sisx, 2nd: WindowsLive_S60_3_0_v_1_0_6141_Signed.sis.
  5. Please write me a comment below and let me know what phones it works with.
  6. Enjoy.

it wont sign in. Maybe they have disabled the service for all the markets except Sweden.

I’m not experiencing any problems on WiFi either. Maybe it’s your WiFi connection? Try a hotspot, at McDonald’s or something?

Works fine here in Finland too, using Nokia E90 :)

fantastic application.  good functionality.  Although would be costly if connected via anything other than free WiFi.  such as orange internet for example.  Depending what price plan you are on

Hi Chris :) I’m glad you enjoyed the Live messenger application. Yes but the data transmitted is not very much (run a test and you’ll understand what I’m talking about). Of course WIFI is great and also if you use a good price plan, some people have unlimited data transfers included in their price plans.
