Nokia inspired by iPhone commercials?

July 23, 2007

Ricky at Symbian-Guru.com seems to be very disappointed with Nokia marketing strategies in the US (some of his articles can be read here and here), I can’t really blame him as their marketing strategy until now have been non existent. This Nokia commercial (not sure if it’s Nokia produced?) suggests something different, it’s fresh, it describes what users ACTUALLY can do with their Nokia devices and it’s iPhone competitive! Way to go Nokia! Now all you need is great broadcasting!

And yeah, throw in more GPS promotions, preferably showing of navigation in a car before Apple beats you to it and remove all the computer screens! It’s scaring people off!

Automatic backlight for S60 3rd Edition

SmartLight Automatic Backlight for S60 3rd Edition

.resized_70x82_smartlight Automatic backlight for S60 3rd EditionTired of the display backlight going out when you are looking at the screen - e.g. while thinking about the right word for an sms? Wouldn’t it be nice if your phone knew when you needed the light and when not? SmartLight does just that: Once you have opened an application, the backlight stays on - until you close or hide the application, switching the light off automatically.

Once started, SmartLight runs as a background application (until the phone is switched off). It can be accessed through the list of open applications (hold down the Menu key). With SmartLight running, the backlight stays on as long as the menu or an application window is in the foreground. The backlight goes out as normal (i.e. after the period selected in Phone Settings) once the user returns to the idle screen. The light also goes out as normal after receiving or making a call, and after the phone displaying system notifications (about new messages etc.).

For maximum effect, we recommend setting the backlight time-out period (Phone Settings > Display > Light time-out) to the minimum of 5 seconds.

Nokia N95 official change log v.12.0.013

July 20, 2007

I just got hold on the OFFICIAL change log for the latest Nokia N95 firmware update, MCU SW v12.0.013. The guys at Symbian-freak digged this up and it seems we’re looking at some major upgrades. Some new features have been added, like the A-GPS I wrote about earlier, but also the new HSDPA (3.5G) indicator on the top left corner, as well as some improvements on the camera software and the previous sharpening bug.
