amAze GPS, free voice navigation & GPS system for your phone
July 15, 2007
I’ve been exploring some different free ways of using the Nokia N95 (and lot’s of other phones) to navigate my way around in my car, without using the Nokia Maps (also known as Smart2Go) application, not because the Nokia application is no good, but because it costs money. I know most of you guys enjoy free solutions much more than things we have to pay for and I don’t blame you. I found this great little program called amAze, supporting both GPS functionality as well as voice navigation, but also extensive search possibilities. You still have to pay the roaming costs (data traffic) which normally is about 10kbyte per tracking.
amAze features:
- Visual and voice guidance to any destination
- Search or define any location by its address
- Search and navigate to businesses listed in yellow pages directories (where available)
- Present any required location on the map
- View and use dynamic high quality maps at various scales
- View and navigate over high resolution satellite images
- Calculate the fastest way between two locations
- Save and manage personal favorites list
- Economy and full moving maps modes, if you want to limit the amount of data consumed or if you require more detailed information, such as in complex intersections.
amAze works on most Java-enabled mobile phones and uses Bluetooth connection to connect to your GPS receiver (in case you don’t have one built in, like the Nokia N95) to indicate your location along the route with vocal and graphical guidance to your destination in the shortest possible way. You can however use all the functions except the navigation without a GPS reciever.

The iPhone, tough build but will it blend?
July 14, 2007
I would love to blend a Nokia N95, not because it’s a bad phone, but just for the sake of doing it. This will probably never become reality since I didn’t even receive one to review. Here’s a guy blending the iPhone, producing some iSmoke
Enjoy, I know I did.
Small site changes
July 13, 2007
I’ve updated the registration and login sections of this page (see the right menu). I’m also in the process of building a new webshop, offering both applications, games as well as accessories for your symbian devices such as phone cases, chargers etc.
I really need some feedback on WHAT YOU want. I know a lot of people enjoyed the wobbly slider guide, but what else do you want? Write me a comment or use the forum. You could also e-mail me at dario(at)simplysymbian.com.
