Information on the Nokia N95 8Gb leaked from FCC
August 23, 2007
New information on the Nokia N95 8Gb edition has leaked from the FCC website (US regulator). Some hardware changes can be seen (pretty much the same as the Nokia N95 US edition) including:
- A new back section where the camera lens cover has been removed to allow for a bigger battery.
- Also the slide media keys are now slightly raised.
- The phone itself is black and the Nokia logo has been moved to below the display.
- The softkeys and directional controls seems smaller than the N95 classic suggesting a larger screen or a slightly smaller device (or possibly just a design tweak).
- Direct access to the Nokia Music Store (likely part of the forthcoming Nokia announcement) in which you can search for, browse and purchase music. It’s likely to use Windows Media Player as the syncing tool to get music from your PC to your phone.
- The Multimedia menu screen has been reworked into a different style as seen in the screenshot below.
- The Nokia N95 8GB is compatible with the N-Gage Gaming experience and comes with one of two applications: either Discover N-Gage or N-Gage?
- A mass memory application has been included used to manage the 8GB internal memory.

Jaiku for Symbian S60 released
August 23, 2007
Jaiku is a software application for mobile phones that enables you to post and browse "Jaikus", add comments, and share your status and location.
The main push of this release is to let you bring the rich conversation you’ve been enjoying on the Jaiku website with you out into the world on your S60 mobile.
Other new features include:
- The choice between longer battery life or more up-to-date presence.
- Reading and writing comments from and to your contacts.
- Go back in time! Using the ’stream view’ for your contacts, you can see what they were doing and saying in the past, not just their most recent post.
- More than just Jaikus! You can also see when your contacts have posted to flickr.
- Improved presence view, to make the most of your screen real-estate.
- A whole raft of usability improvements, based on what our users have been telling us they need, including an even easier to use interface, and a progress meter, so you can see what’s happening.
- More optimal data transfer and connection maintenance, giving you more bang for your wireless data dollar.
- …and all the essential (but not that interesting) stuff like bug fixes, speed improvements, that sort of thing.
- Oh, and let’s not forget – a spiffy new manual for this client.
How to: Use the Nokia N95 GPS/A-GPS
August 16, 2007
So you’re disappointed with the GPS functions on the Nokia N95? Is it slow? Can’t get lock ons or loosing your position frequently? No problem, this post will describe everything you need to know to use your built in GPS to the fullest.
- Make sure you have the latest version of Nokia Map Loader.
Why? Because it’s much faster than the first version. At the time of writing the latest version was numbered v1.1. The new Maploader software now comes with voice commands in 24 languages and the download speeds (both for maps and voices) are MUCH better (we’re talking max 10 minutes for a country, instead of the ~6 hours it took before). You can download and install Nokia Map Loader from Nokia’s website:

More rumors on the Nokia N95 8Gb
August 13, 2007
I found some more information on the N95 8Gb edition on Just another mobile phone blog (phew, that’s a long title!). Eldar, owner of mobile-review has seen the N81, N82 and N95 8Gb in the flesh.
Unfortunately his page is in Russian or something so I couldn’t confirm this but the rumors are:
- VGA screen size resolution (meaning 640×480px?)
- 1200 mAh battery
- 128 MB RAM
- 8 GB internal storage
- will be in all black
I would love to review this one!
US 3G Nokia N95 soon to come!
August 13, 2007
Ricky and Darla got the latest scoops on a new and upgraded Nokia N95 for the US market.
- This new model will support US 3G – HSDPA 850/1900 allowing speeds up to 3.6mbps (aka. "turbo 3G"). Currently AT&T supports this speed, while T-mobile’s planned 3G network will not. It also supports EDGE, for those of you not using AT&T. (It does not support 2100 HSDPA for you people traveling overseas).
- It also comes with a great battery upgrade (wtf, European customers wants this too Nokia!) to 1200mAh with the BL-6F battery, meaning the dimensions of the device have also changed.
- Rumor is that it’ll ship with a 1Gb MicroSD card (?with support up to 8Gb?)
- The backside is black (and perhaps Mocha)!
- The multimedia keys will be padded.
- The camera shutter has been removed.
- The screen might be bigger (not confirmed yet).
- Also the RAM have been upgraded to 128Mb meaning no more restarts and memory out messages!
- The release date will be sometime near the end of Q4, first unlocked with the possibility of going to AT&T sometime in Q1 08 (thanks for the info Darla).
