FreeWay & ScreenPlay, new technologies from Symbian

ScreenPlay
ScreenPlay is a new graphics architecture in the Symbian OS and is one of many steps in what is to become Symbian’s new user interface. ScreenPlay provides software developers many ready to go functions for things like layer rendering, transparency and overlays. ScreenPlay is optimized for high definition video content, games and animations. But don’t be fooled, we’re not talking about HD-TV here, more likely VGA and perhaps SVGA resolutions. My guess is also that ScreenPlay offers animation at higher fps rates. Even cooler is that ScreenPlay works both with and without hardware acceleration – using software rendering for mid-range devices and taking full advantage of hardware accelerated rendering for high-end devices by utilizing graphic API’s such as OpenGL. In plain English this means you will be able to watch a movie or play a game in the background while making a video call in the foreground. Watch the demo below to get a hint of what I’m talking about.
FreeWay
FreeWay is a new IP networking architecture in Symbian OS. It delivers "the capability for super fast download speeds, high quality audio/video streaming and crystal-clear VoIP calls". FreeWay is optimized for Super3G/LTE, WiMax and beyond, which allows users to download music mp3’s in seconds. Most importantly FreeWay allows users to switch between different connection types seamlessly and remain mobile at all times. In reality this could mean you can make a video call while watching a streaming video in the background. You might even be able to share your video with the guy you’re talking to "Hey! Have seen Madonna’s new video?!".
