Following on from Johnbhoy’s post I would firstly like to say thanks! my wifi now works, yippee! 😀 On another note one line of the fix is very important, that being “And again use the same IP ( for the DNS address.”
I didn’t think i’d have to as I have it set up on my router to assign DNS addresses automatically, but it didn’t work until I had put it in.
    Thanks once again!

“Taz: sounds like you’ve upgraded your firmware but some of the software you’ve got installed isn’t working properly. I’ve had the same problem myself. The solution is to do a factory reset and reinstall the software you need.” – Dario Soltani, June 10, 2008

Just do a read through of previous postings. Answer lurks somewhere in the past.

Why cant I send and receive text messages in my new phone after re-installing my preivous backup?

This is the second time now. I think the Nokia n95 is a crappy phone and if I have the choice I will be changing my phone.

All kinds of people are having trouble with it. Come on nokia pull your finger out and help us, or we will all go elsewhere.

DN: Thats basic mobile knowledge, not the phone. You need SMS / MMS configuration from your service provider… Contact them and they’ll help you.

Me pasa l mismo problema que a RodrigoBDT. El fring nuevo no se inicia, tampoco da ningun error… La version anterior si que iva genial porque la estuve usando

Hello, first of all thanks for all posts, i have learn a lot, NOW TWO QUESTIONS
    1. how can I make a backup of the firmware that I have right now, just if case my upgrade go wrong, (MY MOBILE IS N95 8G) and how can I go back , just if case again.
    2. How can I know the firmware i have installed
    3. How can I upgrade without using an internet conection directly (my conection it’s real slow, so I was thinking to download the firmware first )

    Thanks a lot

@amikar: i think you couldn’t have a firmware update without using the internet at least the DSL 384kbps or up. because you have to download first the nokia software updater in then after which you can now start upgrading your phone. it is just simple though, it has instructions.

Its such a shame the the Symbian OS is on the back foot, I used to develop software for it back in the Psion days and it was groundbreaking at the time but then when the operators took a share in it innovation went out the window.

I was considering upgrading the firmware on my N95 8GB from version 20 to +30 then I read that it will delete everything and I am seriously wondering whether there is enough improvement in between the two to make it worth re-installing applications (some paid and some I cannot even remember where I got them from!). Does anyone know what are the major improvements? Thank you.
