n95v20 Nokia N95-1 v.20 firmware available

Nokia just released the v.20.0.015 firmware update for the Nokia N95-1 ‘classic’. Download and install available via Nokia Software Update. This is probably the N95’s most important update, bringing demand paging functionality to the N95 classic. The update is (at the time of writing) available for EURO1 product codes, you’ll find instructions on how to update your phone here.

What’s new?

  • Demand paging and 30MB free RAM after booting! (faster and smoother phone)
  • New welcome application
  • New camera software, camera also works faster now.
  • Hold camera button to launch camera (if shutter is open).
  • My Nokia application added, SMS tips and mobile web portal system
  • Search 4.0 included, integrated on standby screen like the N95 8GB.
  • Multimedia menu not changed (still the old one).
  • N-Gage game previews available now just like the N95 8GB and the N81 (Fifa and Asphalt).
  • Nokia Music Store application added
  • Keypress bug gone?

Don’t hesitate to write a comment with anything new you’ve discovered. I’m off to Budapest tomorrow to cover UIQ’s Fast Track but will of course keep an eye on SimplySymbian.

IS THIS FAKE BECAUSE I TRY TO UPDATE MINE WHICH IS V 11.0.026 AND WHERE IT SAYS CURRENT AND UPDATE THE UPDATE BIT COMES UP WITH SAME V 11.0.026? whats up with it?

Hi Anonymous… It’s not fake at all… You just need to change your product code if you want to make the update. You see, the update ALWAYS first comes to EURO1 users (that is UK, France, Spain etc), then the update is translated to all the different regions and that usually takes some time.

People can however do the update, if they don’t see a problem with not having their local language on the phone. You can of course also WAIT until the update reaches your region.

For more information on how to do all this, check this post I wrote way back:

You need to update your product code, however it voids the warranty.
V11 is the firmware version your provider wants you to have not what is current

  6. Anonymous on December 11th, 2007 7:14 pm

if V.11 is the latest then what is v20 about, i dont get it
    help please

  7. Dario Soltani on December 11th, 2007 7:58 pm

Anonymous… v.11 is not the latest, it the version supported in your country. As soon as Nokia (or if your phone is branded, your provider such as three or vodafone) has made the necessary translations they’ll release a v20 firmware.

However, if you absolutely cannot wait until they release your official update you can change your product code and download some other countries firmware, such as the EURO1 countries, UK, France, Spain etc…

If you still don’t understand what I’m talking about, my advice to you would be this:
Don’t do anything, just wait until you can download and install the ‘normal’ firmware. You’ll have it in a month or so.

How can I restore the old 12.x version

  11. Dario Soltani on January 8th, 2008 9:33 am

Abhi: You should NEVER try to downgrade your phone… Never! So no, you can’t and you don’t want to. Why would you want to use the old 12.x version??

I have downloaded the new version of 20. There are no problem at all. All the above information on the improvement are correct. However, if anyone who has their phone branded under Orange, Voda and etc and require to update their N95 to a newer version, they’ll need to debranded their phone using NSU software as mentioned by Dario.

You’ll never het the latest version of 20 until you removed the provider block. Alternative instruction can also be viewed from http://www.expansys.com/ft.aspx?k=90092

I was upgrading my nokia n95-1 and suddently stopped. After then it causes not to start up the phone. Just showing nokia and i event cant switch it off. Please help me!!

  19. Dario Soltani on September 19th, 2008 1:37 pm

Angela: No worries, take out the battery to turn off the phone. Then put it back in and turn it on as normal. Then quickly do the “green button trick” described in the comments above. It should reset your phone and you’ll be able to use it again. Check if the update has worked, if not you’ll need to do it again.
