How to: Use the BL-6F battery with the ‘old’ N95
November 13, 2007
Lovehappyslip, a YouTube user posted this video describing how the ‘old’ N95’s can be used with the newer and improved BL-6F batteries of the N95 8GB and N95-3 (the US edition). It’s an ugly mod, but it works and might help someone out?
Hmm it seems Lovehappyslip has disabled embedding of this video, check it out here.
‘Well BL-6F battery fits the old N95 classic ok but the battery cover doesn’t quite fit correctly. If you remove the hologram from the battery or the gray tape surrounding the battery and sand down the criss-cross section on the underside of the battery cover you should get a much nicer fit. Please note it adds extra pressure to the battery cover so may damage the clips a lot quicker. I would definitely advise the mod first and also get yourself a spare battery cover.’ -Lovehappyslip
Sony Ericsson’s K850 features accelerometer
November 13, 2007
Accelerometers are hot these days. They make our smartphones even smarter by being able to tell how the user is moving and tilting the device, much like Nintendo’s Wii remote. I’m impressed about the fact that Sony Ericsson picked up on this trend so fast and incorporated a accelerometer in their non-Symbian device K850. It’s slow though…very slow! Watch the video below and judge yourself.

N95 lightsaber spotted on the Death Star
November 12, 2007
Found this cool video on YouTube. Ricky at Symbian-guru is going wild with a Lightsaber application made by Graham Oldfield. The application simulates the sounds of a lightsaber when you swing your n95 using it’s built-in accelerometer sensor which I’ve written about before. It must be installed on the phones internal memory, NOT the memory card and can be downloaded here.
Everyone’s nagging about why Nokia didn’t go public with the built-in accelerometer sensor, but heck, all developers already knew it was there. I know I did back in April.

NokMote, control your N95 like the Wii remote
November 10, 2007
French developer Samir, previously known for his RotateMe application is developing NokMote, an application which allows you to control your N95 like the Wii remote control.
In the video below, Samir demonstrates it’s functionality browsing in the S60 menu and playing games by tilting the phone. The application will be available for download as freeware in December. Please consider donating Samir some beer money for all his great work!
