"The UIQ Alliance Partner Program expands the options for our customers to choose applications and services that work well with UIQ. This accelerates time to market when creating new mobile phones", says Elisabet Melin, VP Marketing at UIQ Technology. "We are very pleased to welcome our new partners into the UIQ Alliance Partner Program and look forward to a good cooperation."
Archive your SMS with GSync!
January 22, 2008
PsiLoc, as usual, breaks the conventional barrier in application development. Lately, they came out with a number of innovative applications like PsiLoc Locatik, PsiLoc SoftVariant and so on. What does GSync do? Well, to be honest, nothing… I mean, GSync is an applicationt that you need to configure once and it will run in stealth mode in the background at pre-defined time intervals to sync your SMS inbox and sentbox into your Gmail account. Wait… Does that mean we can read our text messages in our Gmail? Errr.. Yes! But only for reading, you cant compose or reply SMS from your Gmail account. Read the review after the break.
Ever wanted to use your phone as a mouse? Now you can!
January 22, 2008
NiiMe is a cool new python based software developed for phones with built in accelerometer sensors such as the Nokia N95 or the Nokia 5500. The application allows your phone to control your PC’s mouse. By tilting the phone in different directions you’ll be able to move the mousepointer and click. It does require a Bluetooth adapter though and should not be considers as a substitute for a ‘real’ mouse. I can see a use for this application for those of you with Bluetooth enabled laptops?
Preload memory cards with contacts, applications and settings using Psiloc’s SoftVariant
January 20, 2008

Wouldn’t it be great if you could pre-install all the software, contacts and personalization settings on a memory card which easily can used to change the device you use or bundled with a handset to contain all carrier settings? Polish based Psiloc had exactly that in mind when developing SoftVariant, a brand new solution for Symbian devices that will automatically customize a S60 3rd Edition handset simply by inserting a memory card.
SoftVariant will then install the pre-loaded applications and themes, create contact entries and contact groups, automatically add Wi-Fi hotspots and more. The product could prove interesting to carriers who today brand phones, a solution not always appreciated by the customers who feel their handset become crippled. Also marketing firms and handset retailers can use SoftVariant as a cheap way to create brand awareness, building customer loyalty and adding value to the handset.
Is ‘Xperia’ Sony Ericssons rumored P5i or is it a webservice?
January 17, 2008

On the 10th of January Sony Ericsson filed for trademark protections for something(s?) called ‘Xperia’ at the US patent and trademark office, also known as the USPTO. Xperia was referred to ‘cellular or mobile phones featuring the capacity to function in any number of extra ways beyond just as a phone’. As the Sony Ericssons trademark application leaked to the Internet community a new wave of rumors started, most of them claiming Xperia should or could be the Sony Ericsson P5i.
We’ve previously reported on the yet to be announced Sony Ericsson P5i in our posts ‘First glimpse of the Sony Ericsson P5i?‘ and ‘Sony Ericsson P5i with a new UIQ 3.2 interface?‘. If this baby ever sees daylight it will certainly be Sony Ericsson’s best smartphone up to date. Rumors are the P5i will feature a 5 megapixel camera (which would explain the model number), Wifi, GPS, HDSPA and HSUPA (for faster upload speeds indicating better support blogging and uploading images and videos to online services such as YouTube and Flickr?), a huge 2.8 inch VGA display (480×640 pixels) and a slider form factor.
The big question now is of course is Xperia a device, a product line or could it even be a service?
