Google Map’s Native Client for UIQ 3!
February 28, 2008

This is like “manna from heaven” if you asked me. After months of waiting for a “real” native Google Maps client to be available for UIQ 3 users, it’s finally here and it’s real! Not a Java midlet but a native SIS application which not only looks neat but functions fast! And most interestingly, it has a function called “My Location” which works brilliantly.
Previously, Google released native mobile maps client for S60 3rd Edition and now UIQ 3 version follows suit. I can imagine there are many other native Google application clients for mobile are being developed. I only wish for one thing, a native GMail app! Please Google, speed up the development of that one!

Visual Effect (Transition) on S60 3rd Edition FP 2
February 26, 2008
Nokia’ s upcoming update to S60 3rd Edition is cooking in the lab for some time now and will make public appearance somewhere around Q3 this year with devices such as the N96 and also Nokia 6220. Now what is all the fuss about S60 3rd Edition FP 2 (What a mouthful… )? Well, among others, is the additional central softkey for selection and also the Transition effect. With the transition effect, the UI is filled with graphic effects during changing from one menu to another. To demonstrate how it looks like, watch this video.

Create your own WiFi hotspot with JoikuSpot!
February 25, 2008
How great it would be if you can use your cellphone as a wireless router for your WiFi enabled device? Say you have a PSP, an N95 and a laptop. Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to connect to the net sans wire with only using the N95 as the gateway? With this brilliant small utility called JoikuSpot, you can!

This is in my opinion, one of the best concept for mobile applications in a long time. I mean, using the 3G connection of the phone, it will broadcast the WiFi signal for others to ride the bandwith together. Unlimited! A word of advise, unless you are riding on UNLIMITED data use, you are strongly prohibited to use this app orit will burn a HUGE hole in your pocket! This beta application is available for download from JoikuSpot and more information about it can be found at Joiku.com.
CalSyncS60 – Enabling Sync to Google Calendar
February 25, 2008

Have you ever imagined how useful it could be if you can sync your S60 3rd Edition calendar data with your Google Calendar? Previously, there are a couple of solutions like GooSync, but none of them offers usability like CalSyncS60 because it is developed in native S60 app, not Java. The application is currently in beta stage but already shows some huge potential. It provides two-way synchronization between S60 3rd Edition phones and Google Calendar. Just start the application and hit sync! Head over to http://s60addons.com/calsync/ for more info and download.

A Google Search client for S60?
February 22, 2008

In a move seen as redundant, the big G, just made available a native search client for S60 smartphones. It is a simple application which needs to be activated from the standby screen by pressing “Ctrl” or the “Pencil” button. Anyway, it’s a redundant move by Google because they have announce a collaboration with Nokia to be part of Nokia’s Mobile Search application. In order for you to download the new search client, just point your mobile browser to http://mobile.google.com and look for a Search link.
Our friend, Rafe of AllAboutSymbian had written a nice rundown about the app. Check it out!
