MSDict Is Now Talking With the Oxford Voice

1 April, 2008 - Mobile Systems have extended their licensing agreement with Oxford University Press and published the most comprehensive English audio pronunciation database ever available for mobiles. The Concise Oxford English Audio Module for S60 is based on the highly acclaimed Concise Oxford English Dictionary and features 50,000 high-quality pre-recorded words. The sound module allows MSDict users to listen to and learn genuine English pronunciation directly from their mobile phones. The sound module is commercially available for S60 and will soon be released for all supported by MSDict mobile platforms.

Symbian SQL and new LBS architecture accelerate path to mobile convergence

CTIA Wireless, Las Vegas - March 31, 2008 - Symbian Limited, the market-leader in open operating system for smartphones, today announced Symbian SQL and an advanced Location Based Services (LBS) architecture – two new technologies that herald the next generation of mobile computing by offering dramatic enhancements in the vital areas of mass data handling and LBS.

With analysts predicting smartphone shipments to reach approximately 30% of all mobile phone sales by 20131, and with a third of mobile phones launched on Symbian OS now GPS-enabled, Symbian is pushing the envelope of innovation by including advanced desktop and positioning technologies in its portfolio. Symbian SQL and the new LBS architecture will help Symbian licensees develop handsets that handle very large amounts of data, and which provide users with relevant information based on their current location, in tune with consumer demand.

This new solution enables rich and vibrant surround sound from various types of mobile entertainment content, including music, movies, television, and games, to Symbian smartphone users around the world.

Dolby Mobile offers Symbian licensees the ability to differentiate their multimedia-focused products even further by offering a more immersive audio experience on the go. The first mobile phones featuring Dolby Mobile technology are already available in Japan.
