Mobile leaders to unify the Symbian software platform and set the future of mobile free
Foundation to be established to provide royalty-free open platform and accelerate innovation

LONDON, UK; June 24, 2008 — Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Motorola and NTT DOCOMO announced today their intent to unite Symbian OS™, S60, UIQ and MOAP(S) to create one open mobile software platform. Together with AT&T, LG Electronics, Samsung Electronics, STMicroelectronics, Texas Instruments and Vodafone they plan to establish the Symbian Foundation to extend the appeal of this unified software platform. Membership of this non-profit Foundation will be open to all organizations. This initiative is supported by current shareholders and management of Symbian Limited, who have been actively involved in its development. Plans for the Foundation have already received wide support from other industry leaders.

Since this was a public event, I can only caress the phone, which Samsung calls “THE ALMIGHTY MULTIMEDIA COMPUTER”… for a couple of minutes. Missing Sync, a sync tool for Mac OS X, is now available as a beta preview for S60 3rd Edition and UIQ 3 phones. Missing Sync for Symbian can be used to synchronize / copy contacts (Apple Address Book), calendar entries (iCal), photos (iPhoto), videos (Quick Time) and music (iTunes) to and from the phone. The current version is a beta preview and as such should be used with caution.

EXCLUSIVE! - I had the opportunity to play with the still-unannounced E71 (as of today, June 15th 2008). And in my opinion, the E71 is a smartphone where everybody MUST pay their attention. Not because it has the name Nokia on it but because of it’s sexiness, built quality, the overall satisfaction and more… There’s no word on how to describe the elegance and “luxury” feeling when holding the E71.
