CommunicAsia 2008 Exclusive – Samsung G810

June 20, 2008 by Asri al-Baker

Since this was a public event, I can only caress the phone, which Samsung calls “THE ALMIGHTY MULTIMEDIA COMPUTER”… for a couple of minutes. And to better share my experience with you guys, here is the video of the G810 in action. Enjoy!!! (Please forgive my accent and my English… I am not very good at it! Haha!)

During my visit to CommunicAsia 2008 in Singapore on Tuesday (June 17th 2008), my ultimate mission was to experience the new Eseries E71 & E66 and also Sony Ericsson’s G700 & G900 as well as any other Symbian-related stuff I could find. Looking at my previous visits last year and in 2005, I was confident that there will be some showcases from Nokia and Sony Ericsson.

Boy… I was wrong this time. Not only Nokia and Sony Ericsson were totally absent from the show-halls but also Motorola. Infact, it was kinda weird this time not being able to see latest stuff from these cellphone giants. However, most Asian manufacturers are present, especially Samsung, LG, Huawei and NTT DoCoMo.

I was looking at some Samsung feature-phones when I saw the N95-competitor. The G810 is actually pretty solid and feels nice when hold but in my opinion, the buttons’ marking kinda confusing. There’s no standard S60 Application launcher, instead, the key was marked with 3 dots…

However, in terms of speed and navigation of the system, it was snappy. Multitasking was smooth and I can type quite comfortable on the alphanumeric keypad. However, the alphanumeric keypad also hosts 3 extra keys, i.e. the “Red”, “Green” and the “C” keys. Very different from N95 where the alphanumeric keys only contains the keypads.
